Orthogonal Experimental Design Based Nozzle Geometry Optimization for the Underwater Abrasive Water Jet

This paper proposes an orthogonal experimental design based on the optimization method for nozzle geometry of underwater abrasive water jet, with objective maximizing cutting capacity and minimizing nozzle-erosion rate. Parameter effects nozzle’s capability life are analyzed. analysis shows that while contraction-section curve, axial length focus-section mainly affected service nozzle, nozzle-outlet diameter nozzle. The effect significances structural parameters, from high to low, outlet > contraction section focusing curve. According optimal performance index this structure parameters were a curve A4 (parabolic), 20 mm, 2 10 mm. With excellence was Q = 1.441, which is 44.1% higher than baseline conical nozzle; maximum velocity at distance 100 mm improved by 56% erosion rate reduced 72% compared
